WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly) is accepting applications for the 2020 Terjenian-Thomas Assembly Internship Program in Washington, D.C. and the Assembly Summer Internship Program in Yerevan, Armenia. Both internship programs provide college students of Armenian descent an opportunity to work in the two nations’ capitals while taking part in a full schedule of educational, cultural, and social activities.
“These dynamic internship programs in D.C. and Yerevan provide students with unique opportunities and a once in a life-time experience during this remarkable time in Armenia’s history and also in Washington with increased assistance and the strong bipartisan support the Armenian Genocide resolution in Congress as evidenced by 405 to 11 vote in favor of H. Res. 296,” stated Assembly Executive Director Bryan Ardouny. “We look forward to welcoming the class of 2020,” he added.
Completed application forms (easy fillable online) are due for the Washington, D.C. Internship Program on December 10, 2019, and the Yerevan Internship Program on January 10, 2020.
Students who are accepted into the Washington program are assisted with internship placements in various offices including congressional, think tank, media, and governmental agencies. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with U.S. Representatives, Senators, and other government officials as well as noted academicians through the Capitol Ideas and Lecture Series programs. Participants will also benefit from a wide variety of social activities and networking opportunities that are planned throughout their eight-week stay.

Students admitted into the Yerevan internship program are placed in Armenian governmental offices, inter-governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, medical centers, media outlets, and more. Over the course of eight weeks, participants will have the opportunity to experience life in their ancestral homeland, tour historical sites around Armenia, help build a home in a provincial region of Armenia with Fuller Center for Housing, and meet with Armenia and Artsakh officials.

The Armenian Assembly really takes everything into account — not just treating the students as if they have come for the first time or are unfamiliar, or as tourists who maybe don’t understand the language, or as people who are politically interested or economically interested in the country…really taking into account visiting sites, meeting with leaders, gathering information and also the work experience. I would definitely recommend the program as a whole because I think it’s a unique opportunity that not all young people can say they have been a part of and I just think that’s crucial…it’s an asset and you become very connected with your homeland,” stated Michelle Ohanian from North Hollywood, CA who attends the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and interned in 2019 with the Permanent Representation of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic (Artsakh) in Armenia.
