Assembly Interns Visit Capitol Hill for Meetings with Congressmen Adam Schiff and Brad Sherman

Updated: Jul 26, 2021

Last Friday was the first of many trips to Capitol Hill for the Armenian Assembly of America’s Terjenian-Thomas interns. The timing of the interns’ arrival on the Hill was fortunate because they were able to witness the House of Representatives vote on the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) package which is necessary for passage of the controversial Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), a top priority of President Obama as he nears the end of his Administration. Although he was extremely busy, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) made time to speak with our interns. He discussed many issues of importance to Armenian Americans, such as the Armenian Genocide, and how he plans to promote awareness and universal recognition. Schiff also provided insight on Congress and current events, and listened to what each intern has been doing so far this summer.

Although we had to reschedule our face-to-face meeting with Congressman Brad Sherman (D-CA), our interns were fortunate enough to meet with his foreign policy aide, Arlet Abrahamian. She discussed her responsibilities for the congressman and how she has been involved in multiple projects regarding Armenia.
